Chapter 9 pg 53: "Sure it will hurt. But so what? Pain is just a state of mind..." "Life is Dangerous"
Freak is the best person you could ever meet. He's smart, funny, weird (everyone is weird in their own way), and has his own personality. Note the boldness in the word own. But he is one of those people that really understands the way life works and takes advantage of what he has in life because he knows that one day, either tomorrow, tonight or even within the next minute, it will be his time.
Its quite funny to me how Freak and I are both in the 8th grade and I'm not even thinking about life the way he is. Of course I know death is a natural part of life, but I',m not going to risk my life are to something that really isn't needed just because I know that death will eventualy come. This is why Freak is such an interesting character. Even though he is living with Morquio Syndrome which means he is never going to grow past 3ft. which is nothing to be worried about, he chooses to try and become the worlds first robotic man, making a very risky life or death situation. But hey, it is his decision.
Charlotte from Charlottes' Web, reminds me of Freak. She understood life, and what her role in life was, and made decisions that helped others. The only thing that differs between the two of them, is that Charlotte did not want to put her life on the line. Instead she lived her life how she thought she should.
I guess I could understand why Freak wants to become the Worlds first robotic man, but to me, it's a bad decision. My mom and grandma are always telling me, always do the right thing because tomorrow could be yor last day on earth and you will regret whatever bad decision. So live your life making good decisions. From "you will regret..." and on, is what I am really trying to get across. Freak should just forget about becoming the Worlds first robotic man and make good decisions so that he will be able to live his life as a kid.
No one has two lives. Which is why we have to live our only one, as a good person who makes good decisions either to help someone else, or ourselves. Hopefully people understand that and live there life to the fullest.
isaiah..i liked your entry about Freak and i also liked how you made text to text connections with Charlotte's Web. I have never read Freak the Mighty and I kind of got an idea of what it was even though you never really made a retell in the entry...anyway good job...and i agree, i wouldn't want to be a robot, and i wouldn't risk my life to be one.. :) Dea
ReplyDeleteI really like your post. what i really like about it is that you connected your post to not only your real life, but also Charlotte's Web. It shows that you are not only thinking about your life to the book, but also the previous book that we read, Charlotte's Web. Good job :) I also like that from a little quote you made it into a big idea about death and living your life to the fullest.
ReplyDeleteI think what your saying about Freak is true!He is smart, funny, and weird...Which is why it makes him kind of unique(in his own way, obviously). But I really like how you also kind of compare your life and Charlotte's to his...Saying how your mother and grandmother tell you to,"always do the right thing because tomorrow could be your last day on earth and you will regret whatever bad decision."I also think that, that is very true,"to live your life like your dieing."
ReplyDeleteAnd the fact that you understand both Freak's and Charlotte's lives(i'm assuming)and showed how they both differ in their perspectives of life is even better!I think you did a great job!...And keep it up!(:
wow. of corse i have to love this, because its so close to my opinion on the subject is so similar to mine. but then your writting is beautiful nad takes to that level of "why or why not do we fear death? how do we handle life and why?" your asking why, good job. I've never read freak the mighty, but i see what your saying. i understand that freak just sort of lives his life to the fullest and goes with whatever. BUT then, theres the other side. do you think he is being reckless because he doesnt really care what happens to him? IS THAT A GOOD THING? it kind of scares me, not having enought respect for yourself to not care, but maybe freaks diffreren. maybe he doesnt see it that way.
ReplyDeletein reasponse to your question... i think that living life is a priority. that doing the fun stuff and being HAPPY is most important. if you are content, then nothing really matters. and honestley, if you are content and you die, then there arnt any regrets. but if you die, and wasted your life worrying, then its not ever worth it. strike a balnce. understand it, accept it, but dont expect it, or live parinoied about it.
i thought you might like to know that the "word verfication" for my last comment, was "peril"
